UN Security Council urged to enforce a cessation of hostilities in Gaza, by Palestine's request.
The United Nations Security Council has taken a small but significant step towards alleviating the suffering of children and civilians in the Gaza Strip, by adopting the Maltese Middle East humanitarian resolution.
The resolution, aimed at providing aid to the conflict zone, was met with approval from the majority of Security Council members, who view the hunger crisis in Gaza as man-made. However, the United States opposed a Russian request for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip within the UN Security Council.
Riyad Mansour, Palestine's permanent observer at the UN, expressed concern about the international community and the UN Security Council's inaction, stating they should have taken measures to save lives, particularly children, long ago. He also emphasized his desire for a permanent ceasefire after the UN Security Council vote on the Middle East resolution.
On November 16, Riyad Mansour announced that Palestine will demand a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip from the UN Security Council. This demand is a response to the ongoing conflict and violence in the region, which has resulted in significant loss of life and displacement of civilians.
Israel reported that 128 trucks with humanitarian aid entered Gaza over two days, but the demand for a ceasefire is not just about aid. It's an attempt to alleviate the suffering of civilians and children in the Gaza Strip, and Palestine aims to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of children and civilians in the region.
The UN Security Council has the authority to impose a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but it is still unclear if they will take action in response to Palestine's demand. Russia's amendment to the Middle East humanitarian resolution, which contained a call for a humanitarian truce, was rejected.
Riyad Mansour did not specify any timeline for the demand of a ceasefire, but he stated that the international community should have taken action to save lives long ago. The UN Security Council vote on the Middle East resolution resulted in a majority of votes in favor, indicating a willingness to address the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The statement was reported by TASS news agency, highlighting the global attention this issue is receiving. The ongoing conflict and violence in the Gaza Strip continue to pose a significant threat to the lives and well-being of its inhabitants, and the international community will continue to monitor the situation closely.
