Ultrasonography confirms gender of forthcoming baby for Koсторная
Alena Kostornaia and Georgy Kunitsyn, Russia's beloved figure skaters, are hanging up their competitive skates for a bit, as they're set to become parents to a little boy. Sharing the exciting news, Kostornaia published a video of their adorable gender reveal party on her Telegram channel, captioning it, "Can't wait for it!"
The couple first announced their pregnancy back on April 26, 2022. If their busy schedule allowed, fans could've seen them on the ice in the fall of 2024, but unfortunately, they'll be missing the next two seasons due to Kostornaia's health issues.
Kostornaia trained under legendary coach Eteri Tutberidze until mid-2020. After a brief stint working with Sergei Rozanov for choreography, she moved to Evgeni Plushenko's team in spring 2021. Later in the year, she returned to Tutberidze's "Crystal" skating academy for a trial period. In 2023, Kostornaia left Tutberidze once again, this time joining Elena Buyanova's team.
News broke in early 2023 that Kostornaia had switched to pair skating, partnering with Georgy Kunitsyn under the guidance of Sergey Roslyakov. The romantic duo got engaged in May 2023 on a hot air balloon ride, and later tied the knot in August of the same year. Their debut season as a pair was last season, but health issues have forced them to miss some competitions this season.
Rumors about Kostornaia's switch to pair skating and her marital status abound, but as of now, there's no official confirmation on these fronts.
