Ultrarunner Courtney Dauwalter returning to Minnesota for the Twin Cities Marathon, an apparent shift from her usual off-road events to a road race
The Twin Cities Marathon, scheduled for October 5, 2025, will see a notable entry in the form of ultra-distance trail runner Courtney Dauwalter. Hailing from Minnesota, Dauwalter will be participating in the event as part of the "Best of the Midwest Invitational," an elite group featuring runners with ties to 12 Midwestern states.
This marks a significant shift for Dauwalter, who is primarily known for her achievements in ultramarathons and trail events. The Twin Cities Marathon, with its 26.2-mile road course, presents a new challenge for the determined athlete.
As of late August 2025, there are no publicly available results for Dauwalter's performance in the Twin Cities Marathon or specifically for the Best of the Midwest Invitational within that event. Her recent race records show participation mainly in ultramarathons and trail events, with no prior recorded results from road marathons.
The Twin Cities Marathon, part of the Best of the Midwest Invitational, will draw eight women and eight men with ties to one of 12 Midwestern states. The overall professional prize purse for the event is worth $26,000, with one prize awarded per gender. Additionally, there is a dedicated prize purse of $20,000 for the Best of the Midwest runners.
Dauwalter has been spending more time on her bike around the trails of Leadville, CO, preparing for the Twin Cities Marathon. The event's tarmac surface and sultry Midwest weather will present a different challenge compared to her usual trail events.
In the past, Dauwalter has attempted every 100-mile trail race since her 2019 UTMB win, setting course records at the 100-mile distance in ultra running. However, she had to withdraw from the Cocodona 250-miler in January after completing 108 miles.
Dauwalter is also aiming to regain her crown from Katie Schide in the UTMB finals at the end of the month. She will have nearly five weeks to recover from the UTMB finals before the Twin Cities Marathon. There is a possibility that she may switch from Salomon S/Lab Genesis shoes to S/Lab Phantasm for the marathon event.
Regardless of the challenge, Dauwalter will run with a smile on her face at the Twin Cities Marathon, marking another exciting chapter in her running career. Updates on her exact finish time or placement are not yet available.
