Ultra-speedy military equipment shipments kick off in the US, according to the Military Nigeria Department (MND)
Taking a Gander at Taiwan's Military Boost
Straight up, ya'll! The US has beefed up Taiwan's military swag, speeding up the delivery of badass equipment. On January 7, they wheeled in 16 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), beefing up Taiwan's ability to deter any shenanigans from China's People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Apart from 84 long-range guided missiles, the defense package also features 29 sets of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), a movable rocket launcher developed in the late 90s for the US army, as well as 64 precision rockets, two training simulators, and related equipment. The Ministry of National Defense (MND) spilled the beans in its latest report to the legislature.
For the procurement of this defense package, the ministry reserved a budget of NT$32.52 billion (US$1.08 billion) to be doled out from 2020 to 2027.
Now, about those ATACMS. They've got a range of 300km and are supposed to arrive in two phases: 64 in the first phase and the remaining 20 in the second phase. The first 64 missiles -- 16 in total -- touched down on January 7, with the remainder arriving in the first quarter of this year, assuming the delivery schedule hasn't gone astray.
Eleven sets of HIMARS and two training simulators were received on September 26 last year. And guess what? 18 sets of HIMARS, 20 ATACMS, and 864 precision rockets are scheduled to drop between next year and 2027.
To guarantee timely deliveries, the ministry has placed liaison officers at US military arsenals for bi-monthly audits to monitor production progress. This is to ensure the second batch of equipment and ammo is completed and delivered between next year and 2027.
On a related note, the MND announced that the first batch of 38 M1 tanks and five missile launch vehicles from the first batch of the shore-based Harpoon missile system have already landed in Taiwan.
Now, here's where it gets interesting: Taiwan's second phase of military equipment deliveries includes 18 HIMARS systems, 20 ATACMS missiles, and 864 precision rockets, with delivery set to happen between 2026 and 2027, according to the Ministry of National Defense.[2] While the initial batches of HIMARS (11 systems) were received in 2024[1][2] and early 2025[4], the larger second phase delivery timeline aligns with accelerated production plans and includes the ATACMS and precision rockets in one kickass package.
No specific split of the 20 ATACMS within this period is detailed, but the entire package is expected to arrive within this two-year window. Earlier reports mentioned a 2026 delivery for additional HIMARS[3], but the confirmed schedule now extends through 2027.[2]
So, there you have it, folks! Stay tuned for more updates on Taiwan's military haul!
