Ultra runner Elsey Davis surpasses Arc of Attrition record, achieving success even after losing her GPS watch with 40 miles remaining.
Elsey Davis Smashes Record in 50-Mile Race Without GPS Watch
Elsey Davis, the trail-blazing ultra runner, managed to set a new record in the Arc50 race last week, despite losing her GPS watch early on. The British runner completed the race, which follows the Cornish section of the South West Coast Path in England, in an astonishing 7 hours, 55 minutes, and 48 seconds.
Davis shared on Instagram that the race was not without its challenges. At mile 10, her sleeve got caught on a gate latch, and her watch apparently fell off. However, her wealth of experience and familiarity with the course helped her navigate through the race, relying on her memory and running gels for nutrition.
She admits that she missed out on Strava data, a "small puke" at the finish line, and some gnarly toenails, but she handled the tech hurdles like a seasoned pro, all while sporting her North Face Vectiv Infinite IIs.
Despite not revealing the specific model of her lost watch, it's been speculated that she may have used a Coros watch, being a brand she's been associated with for several years. Luckily, a good Samaritan turned in her watch after the race.
It's worth noting that Davis has had impressive runs previously, representing Team GB as a cross-country runner and setting records in the Bob Graham Round and UTMB Nice Cote d'Azur 100k. In the men's race, her coach Tom Evans also set a new record, becoming the first runner to finish under seven hours.
As for the lost GPS watch, it's unclear whether it was indeed a Coros Pace Pro or another model. Online searches have not provided any concrete information regarding the lost watch or its recovery.
