Ulm Voters Set to Decide on Their Mayor's Fate
This Sunday, around 94,000 Ulm residents in Baden-Württemberg will cast their votes for their next Lord Mayor. Incumbent Gunter Czisch (CDU) is seeking a second term, but he's got some stiff competition from Lena Schwelling (Green Party) and Martin Ansbacher (SPD). All three candidates hail from the city itself.
Gunter Czisch has been steering the ship of this vibrant Danube city, home to just under 127,000 people, since 2016. Prior to that, he served as the city's finance mayor. Following the retirement of Ivo Gönner (SPD) after a remarkable 24-year tenure, Czisch stepped into the position.
Two non-party candidates, Daniel Langhans and Thomas Treutler, have joined the race as well. In the event that no candidate garners a majority, a run-off election will take place on December 17.
Beyond Ulm: Baden-Württemberg's OB Elections
More than just Ulm's mayoral seat is up for grabs on Sunday. Residents will also be participating in elections for mayors in other municipalities across Baden-Württemberg.
The SPD has appointed Martin Ansbacher as their contender in the Ulm mayoral race. Alongside municipalities like the donaustadt district, they're all set for their elections.
Looking Back at Ulm's Political Landscape
Once the votes are tallied, the city of Ulm will continue its journey in the hands of its chosen leader. Regardless of the outcome, the spirit of democracy flourishes as residents take part in shaping their community's future.
