2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain: A Week-Long Cycling Spectacle

Get ready for an exhilarating week of cycling as the 2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain returns to the UK's roads. This year's men's race will take place from Tuesday, September 2 to Sunday, September 7, covering a distance of 886 km across six stages.

The tour kicks off on Tuesday in East Suffolk, with a flat 161.4 km route from Woodbridge to Southwold, passing through picturesque towns like Grundisburgh, Aldeburgh, and Framlingham. The following day, the race remains in Suffolk for a second flat stage, starting and ending in Stowmarket.

On Thursday, the action moves to Milton Keynes, with a 122.8 km flat stage to Ampthill. The terrain flattens out again for the fourth stage, but the finish becomes more challenging, with three ascents at Burton Dassett Hills Country Park.

The fifth stage takes a turn towards the mountains, starting in Pontypool and passing through Monmouthshire. This stage includes two ascents of The Tumble near Abergavenny, with road closures on the B4246 on September 6 for safety during the race.

The final stage is a hilly 112.2 km route from Newport to Cardiff, culminating in the grand finale of the tour.

The Tour of Britain attracts professional cyclists from around the world, with previous winners including Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, and Julian Alaphlippe. This year, local legend Geraint Thomas is expected to retire in the Cardiff grand finale.

Spectators can stand almost anywhere along the route of every stage, making it easy to catch the action. For those who want to combine the tour with local attractions, there are museums, beaches, and castles to explore. The race route changes each year to reach as many fans as possible, making it an exciting event for both cycling enthusiasts and casual spectators.

For those in Cardiff for the final stage, there are additional attractions available for students. The race is a free event for spectators, making it accessible to everyone.

To ensure a comfortable viewing experience, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes, layers, waterproofs, snacks, and water. With the race spanning multiple stages over the course of a week, it can be turned into a day trip, with stages accessible by short train rides.

The Tour of Britain is the UK's leading road cycling event, and in 2025, Cardiff will host the grand finale. Don't miss out on this incredible week of cycling!
