UK's Buckingham Palace Provides Insights on President Trump's Forthcoming State Visit in Britain
Trump Set for Unprecedented Second State Visit to the UK in 2025
President Donald J. Trump is set to return to the United Kingdom for his second State Visit, a remarkable occasion that breaks tradition and promises an exciting schedule. Scheduled for September 17 to 19, 2025, the visit will see the President and First Lady Melania Trump hosted by King Charles III and the Queen Consort at Windsor Castle.
Unlike his first State Visit in 2019, which took place at Buckingham Palace, the upcoming visit will be held at Windsor Castle due to ongoing renovations at the London residence. The visit is described as "unprecedented" as Trump will be the first elected Head of State to receive a second State Visit to the UK.
The itinerary for the visit is yet to be fully released, but it is known that a state banquet in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle will be a highlight of the event. Unlike President Macron, who was previously hosted by King Charles and Queen Consort at Windsor Castle and was taken on a carriage ride through the streets of Windsor, it is doubtful that a similar carriage ride will take place for President Trump due to security concerns.
The visit takes place during UK party conferences when Parliament is not sitting, so there won’t be an opportunity for Trump to address the UK Parliament. This is a departure from the first State Visit in 2019, where he did address both Houses of Parliament.
The invitation for the second State Visit was extended by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in February 2023, during a meeting at the White House. The trip is expected to attract global attention and is seen as a historic moment in Anglo-American relations.
Victoria Murphy, Contributing Editor at Town & Country, has reported on the British Royal Family since 2010 and authored the book The Queen: A Life in Pictures, released in 2021. She has interviewed Prince Harry and traveled the world covering several royal tours. The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that the lack of an opportunity to address Parliament risks a backlash from the US president.
In addition to the State Visit, President Trump is also expected to make a private visit to Scotland this summer to his golf resort.
