Ukrainian President Zelenskyy discusses Ukraine in Berlin ++ Police search for alleged "Reichsbürger" in Donnersberg district
The virtual meeting convened by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump, and other European leaders, was held today to strategize for the second conversation with Trump and his vice, JD Vance. The meeting's primary goal was to draw Trump's attention to Ukraine and Europe's position ahead of the scheduled summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
The discussion focused on ensuring that fundamental European and Ukrainian security interests would be safeguarded in the negotiations with Russia. The European leaders also emphasized the severity of consequences if Russia did not show movement toward peace. They highlighted Europe’s substantial military aid (around 40 billion euros from Germany alone) and sanctions efforts, demonstrating strong European commitment to resolving the crisis diplomatically.
During the meeting, the participants also prepared for the possibility of negotiations involving all parties, with the hope for a second meeting among Trump, Putin, and Zelensky subject to the success of the Alaska summit. Discussions also included plans for a possible $100 billion European-funded package of U.S. defensive weapons.
In a separate development, police in Kriegsfeld, Donnersberg district, Rhineland-Palatinate, searched the home of a suspected Reich citizen this morning. The search was part of an enforcement measure, and specialist forces from the state criminal office are examining the discovered items, although the outcomes of the examination are yet to be disclosed. The area around the operation was cordoned off, and there was no threat to the public during the operation.
These diplomatic efforts and the search in Kriegsfeld are part of coordinated moves to influence the U.S.-Russia dialogue toward an end of the war, ensuring Ukraine’s security and European stability are safeguarded in the peace process. The video conference was moderated by Andreas Fischer, and the participants included European heads of state and government, EU representatives, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and US Vice President JD Vance.
