Ukrainian president demands immediate, unconditional cessation of hostilities following Russian assault that claims nine lives.
In the latest unfolding of the conflict in Ukraine, a bus in Marganets, a southern town, has taken a brutal hit, according to images shared by Dnipropetrovsk Governor Sergiy Lysak. The bus's ceiling is pierced, and the interior is adorned with what seems to be blood and shattered glass.
President Volodymyr Zelenskybranded this assault as a "flagrant, brutal attack and an unquestionably deliberate war crime." In a social media post, he emphatically stated, "In Ukraine, we demand an immediate, complete, and unconditional ceasefire." He further emphasized, " ceasing the carnage is our number one priority."
Lysak revealed that nine individuals lost their lives, and 49 were wounded in this attack.
Enraged by the bloodshed, Zelensky renewed his plea for a temporary halt on certain missile and drone assaults. "We're prepared for an immediate ceasefire, at least for civilian targets," he declared.
Vladimir Putin, Russia's president, unexpectedly declared an Easter truce over the weekend. This truce led to a noticeable reduction in fighting and a nearly complete halt in air raids for 30 hours.
However, Ukraine and its allies have dismissed this truce as a public relations stunt orchestrated by Putin. They maintain that Putin harbors no genuine interest in earnest peace talks.
In the aftermath of the Russian assault, more than 100 drones were dispatched towards Ukraine between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday, the Ukrainian air force reported. Ukrainian authorities also reported fires in several regions overnight, following Russian attacks. The regions affected included Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Odesa.
Meanwhile, a single individual was reportedly injured in the Belgorod region in Russia due to Ukrainian shelling, according to the regional governor.
While discussions regarding peace and a possible ceasefire continue, Zelensky's chief of staff, defense minister, and foreign minister met with Ukraine's allies in London on Wednesday. Originally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was scheduled to attend, but the meeting was downgraded at the last minute.

- In a reaction to the violence, President Vladimir Putin of Russia briefly suspended hostilities over the Easter weekend, but Ukraine and its allies claim this truce was merely a political gesture and discounted Putin's intent for genuine peace negotiations.
