In an audacious move, the Ukrainian military has reportedly destroyed three Russian bombers using drones, according to videos circulating on social media. The videos show the Ukrainian military attacking a military airport in Olenya, a Russian town located in Murmansk which borders Finland and Norway. Olenya is approximately 1800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Another video depicts a drone striking a plane on the runway, but the type of aircraft is unclear. Sources suggest the planes could be Tupolev bombers.

There are unconfirmed reports indicating that on May 26, there were 11 T-95 MS, 5 An-12, and 40 T-22M3 bombers at the Olenya airbase, as per satellite images[1]. However, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) only confirmed that attacks had taken place but did not explicitly mention Olenya.

Vitali Klitschko honored with human rights award

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and former boxing world champion, Vitali Klitschko, has been awarded the Franz-Werfel-Menschenrechtspreis 2025 in the Frankfurt Paulskirche[1]. This award recognizes his "unceasing commitment to freedom, democracy, and human rights." His resilience, bravery, and compassion during wartime have earned him special acclaim[1]. This award, worth €10,000, celebrates individuals standing up against human rights violations, such as genocide or expulsion[1].

The Russian Response

Geolocated video footage shows Russian forces capturing territory in villages such as Toretsk and Kharkiv, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW)[1]. Footage also indicates Russian troops are advancing in the Donetsk region. ISW reports a Russian flag in the village of Novopil southwest of Velika Novosilka, suggesting the village has been captured[1].
  • 11:39: Russia is classifying the recent bridge collapses in Kursk and Bryansk as terrorist acts, according to the Interfax news agency[1]. These incidents led to deaths and injuries.
