Bold Action in Ukraine: "Carry Out Necessary Measures" - Ukraine's Wadephul: Taking Necessary Actions
Germany is set to remain a major backer of Ukraine, affirming Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU). "That won't change, and we'll make that plain in the near future," he announced in ARD's "Tagesthemen".
The new foreign minister had just touched down in Ukraine for his inaugural visit. He's due to participate in an unofficial gathering of EU foreign ministers in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv (Lviv) this Friday, where his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrij Sybiha, is slated to make an appearance.
Wadephul intends to find out by this Friday what Ukraine requires. "We'll dish out what's required, and we'll keep on doing so as long as it's required, until Russia realizes that this war needs to end, peace talks must commence, and a permanent ceasefire must be upheld," he declared.
The CDU representative confirmed that the subject of the special tribunal would be a primary topic this Friday. This tribunal demonstrates to the world that waging aggressive wars has consequences. "It's also a sort of forward-looking protection, to make sure nobody else gets the crazy idea of returning to the Middle Ages and waging wars without repercussions," the foreign minister shared.
EU head diplomat Kaja Kallas had already hinted that Lviv would witness the final political sanction for the proposed international special tribunal. Before this tribunal, Russia can be held liable for its aggression against Ukraine.
