In the aftermath of the Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is pushing for a trilateral meeting with both leaders. According to Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor in Zelensky's office, an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire" is a critical criterion from Ukraine's perspective. Hard pressure will be exerted if the ceasefire is not implemented within an hour, Podolyak warned.
The Alaska summit on August 15, 2025, did not produce a ceasefire or concrete progress on ending the war. Instead, it focused on listening and the potential for future talks. Trump indicated a desire to accelerate negotiations and move quickly toward peace, including seeking a direct peace agreement with no long delays. However, the U.S. side declined to discuss economic incentives for Russia given the absence of progress on the war issue.
