The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has declared a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, scheduled from May 7 to 11. This ceasefire is in honour of the 80th anniversary of Victory, marking the end of World War II.

However, President Putin did not specify any conditions for Crimea to remain with Russia following the resolution of the situation in Ukraine. It is important to note that Crimea is currently under the control of Russia, following its annexation in 2014.

Ukrainian President, Vladimir Zelensky, has not accepted Russia's proposal for a temporary ceasefire to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory. As of August 2025, there is no indication from available information that Ukraine and Russia have agreed on a temporary ceasefire for the same occasion. Negotiations between the two continue in the Istanbul format with no major breakthroughs, and no immediate bilateral meeting between Presidents Putin and Zelensky has been scheduled to discuss such an arrangement.

The ceasefire, if adhered to, would include the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported 4,900 violations during the last ceasefire. Putin called on Ukraine to follow his example of declaring a ceasefire, but warned of possible violations from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the parade in Moscow, scheduled for May 9, is being held to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory. However, Kyiv cannot guarantee the safety of foreign guests who will attend the parade in Moscow on May 9. As for the safety of foreign guests attending the event, no current information is available about risks or special measures for foreign visitors at the parade.

The previous ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine was in effect from April 19 to 21. It remains to be seen whether the current ceasefire will hold and contribute to a lasting peace in the region. The situation will continue to be closely monitored as the dates approach.
