Ukraine's President Selenskyy declares plans for weapons exportation in the year 2026
In the ongoing conflict with Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced plans to export weapons to help fund defense needs. This decision comes as Ukraine's domestic production of certain weapons exceeds domestic demand.
The Ukrainian government aims to work out an export concept within the next two weeks. The plan is to begin controlled exports of weapons in 2026, with a surplus of certain weapons such as seed drones, anti-tank weapons, and other types.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began more than three and a half years ago, has necessitated constant new funding for defense cooperations. Kyiv is planning new defense cooperations abroad due to constant Russian air strikes.
Zelenskyy has stated that the first priority for weapon exports will be cooperation with the USA. European partners are the second priority, and Ukraine will only help those who have supported Ukraine in the conflict. The President has also made it clear that Ukraine will not engage in "weapon charity."
The export of weapons will be subject to "reliable control" to prevent them from falling into Russian or allied hands. Zelenskyy announced that controlled export of weapons will increase drone production for the front.
While Poland, France, the UK, and the Netherlands have shown military support by sending troops, fighter jets, and air defense systems, this does not confirm direct import interest in Ukrainian arms. The specific states showing interest in importing Ukrainian weapons in the last two weeks are not explicitly named in the available sources.
Other states interested in Ukrainian weapons that have supported Kyiv are the third priority for weapon exports. The President reiterated that Ukraine will only help those who have supported Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
