Ukraine will maintain its collaboration with the United States, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister's declaration at 14:10.

The Kremlin has confirmed a planned meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska on Friday, marking a significant moment in the ongoing Ukraine crisis.

The upcoming meeting will discuss options for a "long-term, peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis," according to Russian President's foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov. However, the current state of negotiations between Ukraine and the USA is highly complex and tense.

Under former President Donald Trump, the US has expressed a willingness to facilitate substantive peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, with a goal of achieving a lasting peace. Trump indicated that some Ukrainian territories might be returned during negotiations and warned Russia of "very severe consequences" if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire.

Ukraine, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, insists on being directly involved in any negotiations and demands a prior ceasefire before talks begin. Ukraine also maintains that it alone will decide any territorial concessions, starting negotiations from current frontline positions, and insists on solid security guarantees involving the US.

European leaders, including the UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer and France’s President Emmanuel Macron, support Ukraine’s position and have urged US involvement that respects Ukraine’s role in the process.

Russia, meanwhile, remains uncompromising. Kremlin officials have reiterated their war aims unchanged, demanding full Ukrainian capitulation, including withdrawal from key oblasts beyond current Russian control, demilitarization, "denazification," and Ukrainian neutrality with no NATO membership. They have shown little interest in serious peace negotiations before the Alaska summit on August 15, 2025.

The Alaska summit is being closely watched as it may include US-Russian arms control talks and could affect Ukraine peace prospects. However, Russia’s officials continue to frame their position as non-negotiable nationally defined interests, casting doubt on meaningful progress. Trump indicated this meeting may be the only one if Russia fails to provide acceptable responses, and Zelenskyy pushes for a three-way meeting to include Ukraine directly.

The US approach under Trump has strained relations with Ukraine and NATO allies, with pressure on Ukraine to make concessions including recognizing Russian annexation of Crimea. Ukraine remains resistant to these concessions.

Meanwhile, other geopolitical developments are unfolding. Romanian authorities are investigating whether Russia intentionally contaminated oil from Azerbaijan, potentially causing a fuel crisis. High-ranking representatives of Ukraine, the US, and Europe will meet ahead of the planned summit between US President Trump and Russian President Putin in the UK to agree on a common position.

In a surprising turn of events, US President Trump mentioned a "land swap" between Russia and Ukraine as a possible deal content, but said it would be discussed "later or tomorrow." China will continue purchasing oil from Russia despite tariff threats from US President Donald Trump.

The outcome of the Alaska summit hinges on the extent to which Russia is willing to adjust its demands and Ukraine can safely participate in negotiations. The stakes are high, and the world watches with bated breath as the two leaders meet.
