Ukraine war denial of groundless accusations against Pakistani citizens' participation

Pakistan has categorically denied allegations made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that its nationals are involved in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The country's Foreign Office has labelled the claims as "baseless and unfounded," emphasizing that no verifiable evidence has been presented to substantiate such allegations.

In a statement issued on August 4, 2025, Zelensky alleged that foreign mercenaries, including those from Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and African countries, were fighting alongside Russian forces in northeastern Ukraine. However, Pakistan has not been formally approached by Ukrainian authorities regarding these claims and will seek clarification from them.

The denial comes amid warming ties between Pakistan and Russia, but Pakistan has maintained its neutral stance in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and denied any supply of arms or involvement of its nationals as mercenaries. The government reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, as per the UN Charter.

Pakistan's stance on the Ukraine conflict aligns with the principles of the United Nations Charter, emphasizing a commitment to diplomacy and adherence to international law. The government does not support involvement in conflicts that violate international law and principles of peace.

Zelensky's allegations are not the first time a world leader has accused another country of sending mercenaries to fight in the Ukraine conflict. Previously, Zelensky has accused Moscow of recruiting Chinese fighters for its war effort against Ukraine, charges that Beijing has denied.

As the conflict in Ukraine continues, Pakistan is seeking to clarify its position regarding the allegations of its involvement. The government will take up this matter with the Ukrainian authorities and seek clarification to ensure a clear understanding of the facts.
