Ukraine firmly rejects ceding any territory to the occupying force, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky. - Ukraine stands firm on its territory, stating unequivocally that it will not relinquish land to the occupying force, according to Volodymyr Zelensky.

In an unexpected move, former US President Donald Trump has proposed a land swap between Ukraine and Russia that could potentially grant Moscow control over some of Ukraine's most fertile, resource-rich territories. This proposal, if implemented, would formalize territorial changes in the eastern and southeastern regions, including parts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, which have been partially or fully controlled by Russia during the ongoing conflict.

The regions in question are economically crucial for Ukraine, historically contributing significantly to its agriculture sector and containing valuable natural resources essential to global markets. These resources include lithium, coal, and gas, making the stakes of any territorial arrangement particularly high.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has firmly rejected this idea, arguing that relinquishing the Donbas region would open the door for further Russian aggression and potentially lead to a "third war" in Ukraine. He maintains that these territories are integral parts of Ukraine's sovereign land and refuses to concede control in any land swap.

The proposal has drawn criticism due to the economic impact it could have on Ukraine. The ongoing conflict has already caused massive damage to Ukraine’s economy, especially to its agricultural sector, which has suffered losses estimated at around $80 billion.

Trump's proposal comes after several conversations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin since returning to the White House in January. Initially, Trump showed great favour towards Putin, but in recent weeks, he has become increasingly critical and angry.

Despite the controversy surrounding his proposal, Trump announced a meeting with Putin for August 15 to discuss ending the Ukraine war. However, it is noteworthy that Zelenskyy is not invited to the Alaska meeting, where the discussions are set to take place.

According to Zelensky, any decision about Ukraine's territorial questions is in the Ukrainian constitution and no one can deviate from it. This stance underscores the complexities and sensitivities involved in finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
