Ukraine sets nationwide day of mourning following Russian assault on Kryvyi Rih

Article: Ukraine War Update – April 6 National Mourning After Kryvyi Rih Attack

Ukraine is in mourning following Russia's rocket attack on Kryvyi Rih, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urging the international community to stand against "Russian terror" and not remain silent. In solidarity for the victims and their families, April 6 has been declared a national day of mourning. From Kyiv to Odessa, flags will be lowered and a moment of silence will be observed in cities across Ukraine.

The attack on Kryvyi Rih, Zelenskyy's hometown, has resulted in the tragic deaths of 19 people, including nine children. News sources indicate that more than 75 other individuals sustained injuries in the attack. A period of mourning has been declared in Kryvyi Rih from Monday, April 7 to Wednesday, April 9.

Zelenskyy strongly condemned the global response to the recent attack, accusing international partners of failing to apply sufficient pressure on Russia to cease its military actions. The Ukrainian leader has expressed particular frustration with the U.S. embassy's lacklustre initial response to the attack, feeling that it did not explicitly attribute the strike to Russia.

Meanwhile, the military conflict in Ukraine continues to intensify, with numerous missile and drone attacks reported across the country. Russian forces have allegedly used cluster munitions in their attacks on residential buildings and playgrounds, resulting in devastating consequences for civilians. This latest tragedy underscores the urgent need for international intervention to put an end to the ongoing humanitarian crisis and bring peace to Ukraine.

This conflict is far from isolated, with broader geopolitical implications. Russia's aggression has been denounced as a clear violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. The international community must step up its efforts to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression and protect the sovereignty of its people.
