In the grim exchange of over 6,000 soldier corpses from Russia, Ukraine's Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko, revealed that some of the returned bodies weren't Ukrainian, but Russian. In a brief Telegram post, he refrained from specifying the exact number of such instances.

Klymenko claimed that Russia purposely makes it difficult for Ukraine to identify the deceased, creating chaos and intermingling the bodies of fallen Russian soldiers with those of Ukrainians. Photos accompanying the statement showed an apparent Russian soldier's ID card and tag, purportedly handed over to Ukraine. However, independent verifications were lacking.

Politics Corner: Is Putin Putting the Squeeze on Germany? Over the past few days, Russia has reportedly repatriated more than 6,000 bodies, with Moscow receiving over 50 bodies in return. Alongside the exchange of prisoners, this forms part of humanitarian concessions agreed upon by both warring parties in Istanbul in early June. The first to publicly voice concerns about Russian soldiers' bodies being sent to Ukraine was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Just yesterday, the fifth prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia took place, involving army, national guard, and border troops members. Details regarding this exchange, as well as the number of soldiers returned to either side, were not disclosed by either party. The scope of those released, according to Zelenskyy's Telegram, included severely wounded and critically ill soldiers who had been held captive for over three years1. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the exchange at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border1.
