Ukraine-linked attack triggers major power outage in Russia’s Kursk region

A power outage affected over 2,500 people in Russia’s Kursk region on December 15, 2025. The incident occurred after damage to a key transmission line between the Zapadnaya and Davydovka substations. Authorities later confirmed the disruption was caused by Ukrainian forces operating in the area. The blackout began when third-party equipment damaged the power line linking the two substations. Investigators later identified Ukrainian military activity as the source of the disruption. The outage left residents and businesses connected to the Kiparisovo substation in the Nadezhdinsky district without electricity. The incident highlights the vulnerability of local infrastructure during ongoing regional tensions. Repairs were completed, and normal service resumed for the 2,500 impacted households. No further disruptions have been reported since the restoration.
