A tense atmosphere filled the streets of Kyiv once again as the city reported intensified drone attacks after a fleeting three-day ceasefire. The capital, along with Odessa, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk, experienced an increase in air alerts overnight and in the morning, with no immediate reports of damages. Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged citizens to seek shelter in bunkers for safety.
The truce, initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in celebration of the end of World War II, expired at midnight (23:00 CEST). Although President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and key European allies have put forth a 30-day ceasefire proposal, its acceptance by Moscow remains uncertain.

Istanbul Peace Talks on the Horizon?
Amid the escalating tensions, Putin proposed direct discussions with Ukraine as a potential future step, suggesting Istanbul on May 15 as the venue. The negotiations would pick up where they left off in 2022 when the conflict initially began. At the time of writing, no official response from Ukraine had been received.

Putin insisted that Russia remains open to a peaceful resolution through diplomatic dialogue with no preconditions. He asserted that a lasting peace is in the hands of the Ukrainians, their allies in the EU and the US, and those who genuinely seek peace.
While Zelenskyy and Western leaders continue to advocate for a ceasefire before engaging in negotiations, Russia maintains that the conflict can only be resolved through negotiations following a cessation of hostilities.
Brief History 📏: Russia's Drones and Ukraine's Defense 🛸 As of March 18, 2025, Russia began a limited one-month ceasefire, but it ignored attacks directed at Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Despite this, Ukraine continued to endure near-daily bombardments with Shahed 136 drones from Russia throughout this period, until May 12, 2025. On May 12-13, 2025 alone, Russia launched ten Shahed and decoy drones towards Ukraine, all of which were reportedly intercepted successfully by Ukrainian forces[3].
