UK Money Laundering Allegations Denied by Senator Katung's Spouse

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, the rep for Kaduna South Senatorial District, has blasted a news report linking his wife, Abigail, to a alleged UK money laundering case as "false and misleading."

On Tuesday, a statement by Midat Joseph, his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, slammed the "sensational" headline by Premium Times, published on June 10, 2025.

According to our sources, Katung firmly denied the allegation, asserting that his better half was never involved in any money laundering activity, either domestically or abroad.

The statement declared, "This sensational headline clashes with the substance of the report itself. It's entirely false, misleading, and baseless."

The senator's team pointed out that the Premium Times article itself includes a portion of the court ruling that exonerates Mrs. Katung from any criminal knowledge or complicity. The quoting reads, "The judge stated: 'I do not find that she was cognizant of what Mr. Hussain was up to.'"

However, the media outlet's headline implies otherwise.

Clarifying the situation, the statement mentioned that the case was a civil matter, not a criminal trial.

"It's crucial to remember that this whole judgment came about in a civil proceeding instead of a criminal one," it added.

While the details unfold, the Katungs' media team informed the public to hold off on making assumptions until the legal process is finalized.

The statement reaffirmed the couple's dedication to fair play, asserting that they'd be taking all necessary legal means to correct what they view as a defamatory narrative.

"Senator Sunday Marshall Katung and his wife, Abigail, have always acted within the law and in a transparent manner. They'll take legal action to rectify this damaging narrative," it concluded.
