UK Job Market Witnesses Increase in New Job Listings - REC (Reporting & Employment Confederation)
Job Market Trends in June 2025: A Boost for Transport and Healthcare Sectors
In a notable shift, the job market in June 2025 witnessed a significant surge in several sectors, with Gwynedd, Fermanagh and Omagh, and Southend-on-Sea showing the highest increase in job postings compared to other regions. One of the most striking developments was the increased demand for transport and logistics professionals, as highlighted by the Labour Market Tracker six-month update.
Among the roles that experienced a substantial growth were Train and Tram Drivers, with a staggering 133.7% increase in job postings when comparing the first half of 2025 to the same six-month period in 2024. This surge continued into June 2025, with a 50.7% increase from May 2025. Road Transport Drivers n.e.c. also saw a 22.6% increase during the same period. Managers in Logistics experienced an even more impressive 24.5% increase.
The Health and Social Care sector, however, saw a 1.1% decrease in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Despite this, there were notable increases within the sector. Registered Children's Nurses experienced an 11.7% increase, while Dental Practitioners saw a 29.2% surge in job postings. Generalist Medical Practitioners also reported a 12.0% increase.
The Education sector also saw an 8.6% increase in the number of job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Higher Level Teaching Assistants, Teaching Assistants, and Educational Support Assistants experienced the highest increase.
The overall number of active job postings in June 2025 was 1,485,542, an increase of 4.5% on the number of job postings in May 2025. The number of new job postings in the UK in June 2025 was 757,594, an increase of 6.2% from May 2025.
However, not all sectors experienced growth. Delivery Drivers and Couriers, Paramedics, and Authors, Writers, and Translators experienced significant decreases in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Newry, Mourne and Down, East Sussex CC, and Derry City and Strabane accounted for the sharpest decline in job postings in June 2025.
These trends reflect a broader economic landscape characterised by a 7.2% quarterly drop in total UK job vacancies as of April to June 2025, according to the Office for National Statistics. Economic uncertainty, technological changes such as AI, and a shift towards automation are contributing factors affecting sectors reliant on routine administrative and content-related tasks. This is particularly noticeable in the entertainment industry, where the demand for Actors, Entertainers, and Presenters has decreased due to a broader overall decline in job vacancies across many sectors, including entertainment.

Despite the significant growth in various sectors, the job market for sports professionals remains relatively stagnant, with job postings showing only a minimal increase compared to other sectors such as transport and healthcare. This trend could potentially be a consequence of the ongoing economic uncertainty and the increased reliance on technology in many industries.
Conversely, the demand for sports journalists, analysts, and sports-related administrators has shown a slight increase in June 2025, reflecting a growing interest in sports news and digital media platforms.
