UK Job Market Shows Mixed Results in June 2025

The UK job market exhibited a mix of growth and decline in various sectors during June 2025, according to recent data.

The transport and logistics sector saw a significant increase in job postings, with a surge in hiring for train and tram drivers and related roles. This boost contributed to an overall 4.5% rise in active job postings compared to the previous month, making it one of the most vibrant sectors in the economy.

According to the Labour Market Tracker six-month update, Train and Tram Drivers saw the biggest growth at +133.7% when comparing the first half of 2025 to the same six-month period in 2024. Additionally, Road Transport Drivers n.e.c. had a 22.6% increase in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Over 100,000 driving and logistics roles were posted in June 2025, marking a 6.9% increase from May 2025. Managers in Logistics also experienced a 24.5% increase in job postings during the same period.

In contrast, the Health and Social Care sector experienced a slight decrease in job postings, with a 1.1% drop from May 2025 to June 2025. Registered Children's Nurses and Generalist Medical Practitioners saw an increase, but the overall sector's growth was outweighed by decreases in other roles such as Paramedics, which experienced a 24.0% decrease in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025.

The Education sector also showed growth, with an 8.6% increase in the number of job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Higher Level Teaching Assistants, Teaching Assistants, and Educational Support Assistants had the highest increase.

Interestingly, the entertainment industry saw a drop in demand for Actors, Entertainers, and Presenters. This decline may be due to changes in consumer behavior, reduced event productions, or shifts in media consumption trends impacting hiring in these professions. For example, authors, writers, and translators experienced a 25.5% decrease in job postings for the second month in a row.

The regions with the highest increase in job postings in June 2025 were Gwynedd, Fermanagh and Omagh, and Southend-on-Sea. Agricultural and Fishing Trades also saw a 32.1% increase in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Dental Practitioners also experienced a 29.2% increase in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025.

Despite the monthly increase, overall vacancy levels in the UK fell on a quarterly and annual basis, indicating that the June rise was sector-specific, not economy-wide. This suggests that while certain sectors are experiencing growth, the overall labor market is still recovering from the impacts of the pandemic.

In summary, the UK job market in June 2025 showed a mix of growth and decline across various sectors. The transport and logistics sector saw a significant increase, particularly in train and tram driver roles, while the Health and Social Care sector experienced a slight decrease. The Education sector also showed growth, with the Entertainment industry and writing professions seeing a decline. These trends highlight differing dynamics within UK labor market sectors during mid-2025.
