Job Market Trends in the UK: June 2025

In the UK, the job market saw a significant shift in various sectors during the month of June 2025. Here's a breakdown of the key trends observed.

Growing Sectors

The creative industries continued their robust growth, with an impressive 9% increase in job postings projected from 2024 to 2035. This growth rate matches that of the information technology sector and surpasses industries such as construction (8%) and health and social work (8%).

Within the creative sector, design roles, including creative designers, experienced a surge in job postings. The first six months of 2025 saw a +63.9% increase in job postings for stonemasons and related trades compared to the same period in 2024.

The transportation sector also witnessed a boom, with road transport drivers, train and tram drivers, and logistics managers seeing notable increases in job postings. Train and tram drivers, in particular, experienced a 50.7% increase, and train and tram drivers, along with road transport drivers, saw a 22.6% increase from May 2025 to June 2025.

Declining Sectors

Contrastingly, the health and social care sector saw a 1.1% decrease in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Within this sector, roles such as undertakers, mortuary and crematorium assistants, and generalist medical practitioners saw a decline in job postings.

The education sector, however, bucked the trend with an 8.6% increase in job postings from May 2025 to June 2025. Higher level teaching assistants, teaching assistants, and educational support assistants saw the highest increase.

Regional Trends

Newry, Mourne and Down, East Sussex CC, and Derry City and Strabane accounted for the sharpest decline in job postings in June 2025. On the other hand, Gwynedd, Fermanagh and Omagh, and Southend-on-Sea showed the highest increase in job postings during the same period.

Overall Job Market

The overall number of active job postings in June 2025 was 1,485,542, an increase of 4.5% on the number of job postings in May 2025. The latest Labour Market Tracker six-month update shows train and tram drivers had the biggest growth at +133.7 when comparing job postings from the first half of 2025 to the same six-month period in 2024.

In June 2025, there were over 100,000 driving and logistics roles posted, representing a 6.9% increase from May 2025. However, roles such as delivery drivers and couriers, paramedics, and authors, writers, and translators experienced a decrease in job postings.

Dental practitioners and managers in logistics also saw significant increases in job postings, with a 29.2% and 24.5% increase respectively from May 2025 to June 2025.

The number of new job postings in the UK in June 2025 was 757,594, an increase of 6.2% from May 2025. Despite this growth, it's important to note that various sectors continue to face challenges, and the job market remains dynamic and evolving.
