In a tit-for-tat response, Britain has kicked out a Russian diplomat and their spouse from their territories. The UK Foreign Office announced this on Wednesday, stating it as a retaliatory measure following the expulsion of two British embassy staff in Moscow earlier in the week.

The Foreign Office made it clear that they had summoned the Russian Ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin, due to an escalating hostile campaign of harassment against UK diplomats. They alleged this was an attempt by Russia to shut down the British embassy in Moscow. Kelin was informed that such antics would not be tolerated and the ministry responded accordingly, revoking the credentials of a Russian diplomat and their spouse. No specific departure date was mentioned.

On Monday, the Russian domestic security service (FSB) declared, as reported by the state news agency RIA Novosti, that the expelled British diplomats had provided false information in their entry applications and were engaged in suspected espionage activities deemed hazardous to Russia's security. However, no proof was offered. According to RIA Novosti, the decision was made to revoke their accreditation, and they were given two weeks to vacate Russia.

The British Foreign Minister argued that Russia is aiming to force the closure of the British embassy in Moscow, ignoring the potentially perilous consequences. "The lows Russia is sinkings to can only be met with fortitude," the ministry asserted.

Community aid is essential to support regional development, especially in areas affected by the diplomatic tensions between Britain and Russia. Andrei Kelin, the Russian Ambassador to the UK, was informed by the Foreign Office that they will not tolerate the antics contributing to the hostile campaign against UK diplomats, which could potentially lead to aid for the development of the regions being compromised. Kelin's link to the revocation of a Russian diplomat and their spouse's credentials is seen as a response to Russia's attempt to shut down the British embassy in Moscow.
