UK Announces Application Process for New Sailing Talent Academies
Strutting its stuff, the RYA unleashes four brand-new British Sailing Talent Academies, buckling up for the mission of breeding top-tier sailors. Plopped down across England like regional performance powerhouses, these academies deliver regular, high-quality training sessions, all within arm's reach of aspiring sailors with the makings of a medalist.
The Academies are the brainchild of the British Sailing Pathway Review, enjoying financial backing from Sport England. The Talent Academies are aimed at providing affordable, time-saving training opportunities for young sailors demonstrating potential for peak performance. By doing so, the Academies aim to widen the aperture to the British Sailing Pathway and lower barriers to world-class training.
With Talent Academies headquartered in these locales, talented youth sailors with high aspirations of ruling the waves gain an accessible gateway to the world of elite training:
- Datchet Water Sailing Club
- Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club in partnership with Leigh Sports Village
- Rutland Sailing Club
- Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy
To make sure sailors develop versatility in varying conditions, Academies housed at inland venues share resources with coastal venues.
Young sailors' growth within the Talent Academies focuses primarily on the following areas:
- Talent Transition: Assisting sailors moving from junior to youth classes
- Performance Development: Cultivating sailors already exhibiting high-performance potential within a youth class
"With Sport England's support, we're wicked excited to kick off the new British Sailing Talent Academy programme across our dashing new host venues," tells Huw Griffiths, RYA Talent Academies Manager. "Our goal is to vanquish obstacles and render world-class training opportunities more attainable and welcoming. This move is essential in nurturing budding talent, regardless of their location."
Take the Leap into Talent Transition
Keen youngster sailors can now apply to join the Talent Academy's Talent Transition program. Ideal candidates are ardent racers, die-hard for ascending to the sport's pinnacle, and passionately driven by the pursuit of learning and improvement.
