Swimmers Defy Autumn in Private Pool - Uhingen’s DIY swimming pool defies autumn with warm water and daily visitors
Uhingen resident Achim Gall's homemade outdoor swimming pool continues to attract visitors even in November, with five to six residents using it daily despite the autumn chill. The pool, built to fulfill Gall's lifelong dream, has become a local attraction. Gall, inspired by Jens Hauck's unauthorized pool that gained national attention, decided to build his own. Initially, local authorities rejected his planning application. However, once Gall proposed offering public swimming lessons, the town approved the project. The pool, with water maintained at a comfortable 22°C (72°F), is now a beloved community spot. Gall invested around €400,000 in its construction, including supporting facilities. The pool in Uhingen, a town of around 15,000 residents, continues to serve its community even in colder months. Gall's initiative has not only provided a place for locals to swim but also fostered a sense of community around a shared activity.
