UFC 319 hit with unexpected turmoil as two preliminary bouts abruptly fall apart within hours
The upcoming UFC 319 event, scheduled to take place in Chicago on Saturday night, has encountered some changes in its undercard. Two fights have been scrapped in the past two days, leaving a gap that will be filled by an additional contest.
The TUF 33 welterweight finale between Rodrigo Sezinando and Daniil Donchenko has unfortunately been scrapped due to an injury sustained by Sezinando. However, there is a confirmed plan to reschedule this highly-anticipated fight at a later date.
Another scrapped fight was the lightweight bout between King Green and Diego Ferreira. This fight was canceled due to an injury sustained by Green, and no rescheduling details have been announced yet. Green had initially secured a No.15 lightweight ranking in the first quarter of 2024, but lost it via a first-round submission loss to Paddy Pimblett last July.
The third scrapped fight was between Bryan Battle and Nursulton Ruziboev. Battle missed weight by 4 pounds, causing the fight to be canceled with no announced rescheduling date.
To fill the gap, an additional middleweight contest has been added to the UFC 319 undercard between Baisangur Susurkaev and Eric Nolan. Susurkaev, who recently won a highlight-reel first-round knockout on Dana White's Contender Series, has a record of 9-0. Nolan, on the other hand, has a record of 8-3 and is currently on a four-fight winning streak, including three wins inside the distance.
The main event of UFC 319, a middleweight title clash between Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev, remains intact.
Ferreira, who had initially been scheduled to fight Green, expressed his desire to face the veteran fighter. He had been seeking a matchup with Green for the past three years, viewing it as a potential opportunity to get back into the win column after losing four of his last six fights.
Despite these changes, UFC 319 promises to deliver an exciting night of fights. No definitive timeframes for the rescheduling of the scrapped fights have been provided yet.
The TUF 33 welterweight finale between Rodrigo Sezinando and Daniil Donchenko will not take place at UFC 319 due to an injury, but it is set to be rescheduled at a later date. Instead, an additional middleweight contest between Baisangur Susurkaev and Eric Nolan has been added to the UFC 319 undercard, with Susurkaev having a record of 9-0 and Nolan currently on a four-fight winning streak in MMA sports.
