Kairat Almaty Secure Historic UEFA Champions League Victory Against Celtic
In a thrilling turn of events, Kazakhstani club FC Kairat have made history by advancing to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time. After a dramatic penalty shootout, Kairat defeated Scottish powerhouse Celtic, securing a 4-3 victory in the decisive shootout.
The first leg of this eagerly-anticipated encounter ended in a 0-0 draw, with both teams demonstrating their defensive prowess. However, it was in the return leg that Kairat truly shone, defying the odds to claim a memorable victory.
Kairat, who have a modest history in UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds, have never won an away Champions League qualifier. Their record away from home is 0 wins, 2 draws, and 4 losses, with 14 goals conceded in those games. But at home, they have been a force to be reckoned with, winning all 6 matches on home soil.
This European campaign has been one of Kairat's best, as they reached the play-off round by beating Olimpija Ljubljana, KuPS, and Slovan Bratislava (the last via a penalty shoot-out). The return leg of the play-off round will take place in Almaty on August 26.
