UConn Basketball Bolsters Success with Pro Audiovisual Modernization

Metinteractive Upgrades Gampel Pavilion's AV Systems, Enhancing Fan Experience at University of Connecticut

Metinteractive, an AV systems provider, has recently undertaken a significant upgrade at the Gampel Pavilion basketball facility on the University of Connecticut at Storrs campus. The upgrade is part of a series of projects completed by Metinteractive with UConn, which also includes work at the Freitas Volleyball arena, Toscano Hockey center, student rec center, the university's Athletic District Development, and exhibits for the UConn Hartford campus. Additionally, Metinteractive supplies the majority of UConn's on-site AV game support.

Jeff Mele, Metinteractive's chief commercial officer and project executive for Gampel Pavilion, expressed enthusiasm for the UConn partnership, given the company's strong affiliation with the Huskies. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that public and donor funds are used effectively.

The Gampel Pavilion upgrade included new LED videoboard displays, replacement of old inner bowl seating, and enhancements to the university's live production capabilities. Notably, the project integrated Gampel Pavilion with the Rizza Performance Center's control room, enabling the production of a second basketball show when necessary.

Eric Pirozzi, an integration technician at Metinteractive who managed the Gampel Pavilion project, stated, "We were tasked with optimizing live production by installing an updated broadcast system and integrating it with their existing infrastructure." The control room received new equipment, including two ElationLogic DV65 monitors, a Ross Ultrix router, a Ross XPression motion graphics render engine, an Evertz DreamCatcher DC-ONE replay platform, and a master clock for AV synchronization.

The controlled room is now connected to two Daktronics LED videoboards via fiber, and a Ferrofish Pulse16 MX AD/DA converter has been integrated with the displays' video content.

"We have an extensive roster of work in sports facilities nationwide, and our relationship with UConn made this project a smooth success," said Pirozzi.

David Benedict, UConn's director of athletics, praised Metinteractive's work, noting the transformed venue and the positive impact the improvements have already made. He commended Metinteractive's dedication to enhancing the Gampel Pavilion experience for all visitors.

In concluding, Benedict highlighted Metinteractive's hard work, creativity, and commitment to excellence, expressing excitement about the improvements' ongoing benefits for both fans and teams. It is evident that Metinteractive's efforts have set a new standard for what the Gampel Pavilion can offer.

The upgrade by Metinteractive at the Gampel Pavilion, home to UConn's basketball team, now includes state-of-the-art LED videoboard displays and an enhanced live production capability, thanks to the new broadcast system integration. This project has expanded the facility's capabilities, allowing it to produce a second basketball show when necessary, connecting it with the Rizza Performance Center's control room. Sports fans attending events at UConn can now enjoy the improved features of the Gampel Pavilion.
