UAE's Jiu-Jitsu squad touch down in China ahead of World Games competition
The UAE national jiu-jitsu team has once again made the country proud, securing three medals at the recently concluded World Games in Chengdu, China. The team brought home one gold and two silver medals, continuing their strong tradition of success on the world stage.
Held from August 7 to 17, the World Games featured nearly 5,000 athletes from 118 countries across 34 sports. The UAE jiu-jitsu competition ran from August 10 to 12, with the national team consisting of six athletes across different weight categories.
Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Mehdi Al Awlaki, and Saeed Al Kubaisi represented the men's team, while Asma Alhosani, Shamsa Al Amri, and Shamma Al Kalbani were part of the women's side. The team's high expectations were met as they showcased their skills and determination throughout the competition.
The UAE team had prepared meticulously for the event, undergoing rigorous local and international training camps focused on technical skills, physical fitness, and mental readiness. They even completed a training camp in Brazil to sharpen their technique and improve overall fitness.
Mubarak Saleh Al-Menhali, Director of the Technical Department at the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expressed confidence in the team's readiness, aiming for a new milestone to strengthen the UAE’s global and regional jiu-jitsu standing. Former champion Faisal Al Ketbi also expressed his confidence in the team's chances of winning medals at the World Games, stating that they had won two gold medals in the previous edition and aimed for more this year.
The morale within the team was high, according to Faisal Al Ketbi, as they entered the competition. The UAE team had a strong history in jiu-jitsu at past World Games, with two medals in 2017 (one gold, one silver) and five medals in 2022 (two gold, one silver, two bronze).
The 2025 World Games in Chengdu was one of the most prominent international sporting events, and the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Team's performance solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in the sport.
