UAE Expresses Condolences Over Explosion in Tyre, Lebanon
An explosion at an army facility in Tyre, Lebanon, on Saturday resulted in the death of six soldiers and injuries to several others. The incident took place while soldiers were performing their duties, dismantling the contents of a weapons depot.
According to security sources, the explosion was caused by remnants of the Israeli war in the coastal city. The depot primarily contained ammunition belonging to Hezbollah, and the soldiers were carrying out this work as part of an operation to dismantle weapons confiscated south of the Litani River in compliance with a ceasefire agreement and UN Resolution 1701.
The explosion occurred inside a tunnel or depot used for storing Hezbollah weapons near Tyre, in the area between Majdal Zoun and Wadi Zibqin. The blast happened when the army engineers were trying to neutralize or dismantle the ammunition, which exploded unintentionally.
Lebanese authorities also reported that the explosion involved remnants of munitions from past Israeli attacks in the area, which continue to pose risks. However, the primary cause was the detonation of ammunition during dismantling operations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, and to the government and people of Lebanon. The UAE has not been directly involved in the investigation or the incident at the army facility in Tyre.
It is important to note that there is no connection between the explosion in Tyre, Lebanon, and the forest fires in Albania, contrary to a separate report.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion at the army facility in Tyre, Lebanon.
