In a heartfelt farewell meeting held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan bid adieu to Hamad Obaid Alzaabi, the outgoing UAE Ambassador to Pakistan. The Ambassador, who assumed his post on September 19, 2017, and served for over six years, has left an indelible mark on the bilateral relations between the two nations.

People-to-people ties between Pakistan and the UAE have continuously strengthened during Ambassador Alzaabi's tenure, marked by warmth, hospitality, and resilience on both sides. The deepening of relations occurred across various sectors, including economic, cultural, social, diplomatic, and political domains.

One of Ambassador Alzaabi's key accomplishments was negotiating the UAE-Pakistan Visa Waiver Agreement for diplomatic and special passport holders, which eased official travel between the two countries. He played a central role in expanding bilateral trade beyond $10 billion and promoting increased UAE investment in Pakistan’s energy, infrastructure, and agricultural sectors.

Ambassador Alzaabi's contributions to energy collaboration, humanitarian aid, and strategic partnerships were acknowledged by the Pakistani leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. His efforts were also recognised with high honours, including Pakistan’s Hilal-e-Quaid-i-Azam Award and the UAE Medal of Pride for his diplomatic service.

The UAE, one of the largest investors in Pakistan, has benefited significantly from Ambassador Alzaabi's tenure. During his mission, he fostered cultural and educational exchanges, such as Pakistan’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, and encouraged new partnerships in defense, healthcare, and education.

As Ambassador Alzaabi prepares for his future endeavors, President Zardari extended his best wishes. The UAE Embassy in Islamabad, in a statement shared on a social media platform, thanked the Pakistani leadership for their warm hospitality and cooperation during Alzaabi's tenure.

Before his appointment as Ambassador, Alzaabi served as an Attaché with the UAE's Diplomatic and Consular Corps. After his service in Pakistan, he later served at the UAE Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
