Unleash yer inner fanboy

Germany's young guns danced and high-fived, grinning ear to ear - the Euro quarterfinal against the heated rivals, Italy, was on the horizon, and they'd claimed the top spot in their group as the victorious champions. A 2:1 (2:0) victory against England, the previous tournament winners, sealed the deal for these talents. Frankfurt's Ansgar Knauff (3rd minute) and Mainz's Nelson Weiper (33rd) left Woltemade & Co. on the bench with grins from ear to ear. England's Alex Scott's goal (76th) momentarily dampened their spirits.

"Our squad's got depth, it shows the quality. Everyone's ready, and we showed that today!" Knauff exclaimed on Sat.1, adding, "Now, we aim to reach the semis, too." Modest about his goal, he simply said, "I'm just happy I could help the team today."

Coach Talks Rotation Strategy

Two years prior at the 2023 Euro, Germany had lost to England 0:2. This time, they turned the tables, winning 2:1 in their 13th Euro championship duel, in the presence of 5,624 spectators in Nitra.

Coach Antonio Di Salvo deciding to make eleven changes to his starting lineup after securing a quarterfinal spot. "Originally, I planned to keep one axis on the field. But players felt they couldn't manage playing every three days, so I shifted gears" Di Salvo explained his radical team change. Say goodbye to predictability, hello to competitive surprises!

Reserves Give it Their All

But this wasn't a B-team! The reserves, winning against Slovenia (3:0) and the Czech Republic (4:2), staked their claim for a spot on the starting lineup for the knockout affair against Italy - reigning champions with Spain, who they'd meet in the next round.

None of the dramatic changes, nor the temporary blackout towards the end of the first half, rattled the German team's resolve. England, who could have been sent packing with a crushing defeat, saw the German gang charge in from the get-go.

Perfect Beginning for the Relentless German Team

After a terrific press, the ball made its way to Lukas Ullrich. The Gladbach left-back showed nerves of steel, passing the ball to Knauff, who netted his fourth goal in his 27th U21 international. Di Salvo cheered, and the team looked ready to conquer.

England struggled to break through, while Germany held their ground. A Knauff cross found Weiper in an undeniably fierce struggle with defenders, scoring a 2:0 lead for DW Salvo’s fearless squad.

A Riveting Match in the Making

England regrouped at halftime and launched another offensive with a fresh set of players. England took the match to another level, outplaying their opponents in the second half, but just couldn't find the equalizer.

The Italian rivalry heats up on Sunday in Dunajska Streda, with both sides eager for the excitement. Fingers crossed for yet another thrilling display of youth talent at the Euros!
