U.S. urged by Turkey to boost diplomatic pressure on Israel concerning Gaza matters
In a significant development, Turkey has announced it will completely halt export-import relations with Israel until the Israeli government declares an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensures uninterrupted humanitarian aid to the region. The announcement was made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a parliamentary session in Ankara.
"Turkey neither allows container ships carrying weapons and ammunition to Israel to dock in its ports nor allows Israeli airplanes into its airspace," Fidan said. Ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region is a main priority for Turkey.
The move comes amidst ongoing disagreements between Turkey and the United States regarding the situation in Gaza. The disagreements are due to different perspectives on the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Mehmet Ali Seker Oktay, the head of the Turkish parliamentary delegation, recently visited the U.S. During his visit, he reiterated that the Palestinian issue has existed for nearly 100 years. He also emphasized that the events leading to the deaths of over 35,000 people cannot be addressed from the perspective of Hamas.
The issue between Turkey and Israel lies in the violence and policy Tel Aviv is pursuing in the situation with Gaza. Turkey has no problems with the Israeli people, Oktay clarified.
In a statement to the Haber Global channel, a Turkish politician said that the U.S. could potentially stop the ongoing war. However, Oktay emphasized that the events leading to the deaths of over 35,000 people cannot be addressed from the perspective of Hamas.
The halt in operations will remain in effect until Israel announces an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Turkey prioritizes the immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as the conflict has taken a heavy toll on the civilian population.
Oktay also emphasized that the Palestinian issue has existed for nearly 100 years and needs a comprehensive and peaceful solution. He urged all parties involved to work towards de-escalating the conflict and finding a lasting peace.
As the situation in Gaza continues to unfold, Turkey's decision to suspend trade with Israel is a clear signal of its commitment to the protection of human rights and the pursuit of peace in the region.
