The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee has approved a draft defense budget for the 2026 fiscal year that includes approximately $1 billion in aid for Ukraine, according to recent reports.

The funding package, which comprises about $800 million specifically for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and $225 million for the Baltic Security Initiative, is part of an $852 billion Defense Department budget proposed by the committee on July 31, 2025.

The aid is planned for the 2026 fiscal year, but there are indications that the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funding authorization may continue and increase through 2028, with proposed authorized funding rising from $300 million in 2025 to $500 million annually through 2028.

In addition to the funding for Ukraine, the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee also approved $225 million for the security initiative of the Baltic countries.

The funding for Ukraine represents an increase of about 2.6% over what former President Donald Trump had requested. However, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a vocal critic of U.S. involvement in conflicts abroad, has expressed concern about the U.S.'s continued involvement in these conflicts.

Greene stated on social network X that the U.S. is betraying the interests of the majority of Americans by continuing to provide financial support to conflicts in Ukraine. She added that the U.S.'s continued involvement in these conflicts could lead to the loss of Republican Party voters, particularly the younger generation.

It is worth noting that part of the proposed funding for Ukraine will come from seized assets of Russia. Previously, the U.S. representative to NATO revealed Trump's position on the conflict in Ukraine.

Greene has also expressed concern about the U.S.'s continued involvement in conflicts in the Gaza Strip. The aid is still pending votes by both chambers of Congress and the president’s signature to become law.
