U.S. Transition Post-Trump: A Chance for America, a Test for China, and an Opening for Europe
The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is hosting an online event, inviting registrants to join a thought-provoking discussion on India's evolving diplomatic strategy. The webinar, titled "Pivot to Europe: India's Back-up Plan in Trump's World", is based on a policy brief of the same name authored by James Crabtree, a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the ECFR.
The event is organised as part of ECFR's Re:Order project, a series of discussions aimed at understanding the geopolitical landscape in the face of changing global dynamics. The project is generously funded by Stiftung Mercator.
The reassessment of New Delhi's diplomatic strategy has been brought about by Donald Trump's attacks on India. This has led to an emphasis on "multi-alignment" for India, raising questions about where the country should seek reliable partners. The strategic value of Russia is in decline, adding to these questions.
The webinar will delve into the drivers of India's multi-alignment strategy, the implications of U.S.-China rivalry for New Delhi's choices, and Europe's role in India's search for stable and diverse partnerships.
Manisha Reuter, Acting Programme Director at the ECFR, will be chairing the event. The panel will feature Rush Doshi, a Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and Nirupama Rao, a Former Indian Foreign Secretary and Former Indian Ambassador to Washington and Beijing.
While tensions with Washington may lead India toward limited fence-mending with Beijing, the underlying competitive dynamics of China-India relations remain unchanged. The webinar promises to offer valuable insights into India's strategic manoeuvres in the current geopolitical climate.
Registration for the webinar is available here. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with experts and gain a deeper understanding of India's diplomatic strategy in the 21st century.
