U.S. Secretary inadvertently discloses classified military strategies during a private family conversation.

Washington's latest scandal turmoil

Pete Hegseth, the US Defense Minister, has been caught red-handed, allegedly dishing out juicy details about the March attack on the militant Islamic group, the Houthi, in a cheeky chat group on Signal messenger, according to the "New York Times". His wife, brother, and personal lawyer were apparently in on this cavalier affair too!

  • Leaked battle plans, anyone?
  • Spilled secrets: Putin eavesdropping?
  • The whispers in the war room started in Salzburg

The daily newspaper claims that the chat group messages contained sensitive information regarding the strikes' timetable, and an internal investigation was initiated within the Trump administration to set the record straight. The catalyst? Last month's "Atlantic" exposé where Hegseth and some top-tier US government officials, including the president's men, found themselves in a less-than-ideal chat group by accident. As a result, the Trump administration has been under fire to clarify the circumstances surrounding the clumsy slip-up.

Three Department of Defense employees were suspended as a part of the internal investigation. However, some of Hegseth's former advisors, including Dan Caldwell, Darin Selnick, and Colin Carroll, have spoken out for the first time. They're livid, revealing that they still haven't been informed of what they're being investigated for, the investigation's status, or whether there was even an active probe into the leaked information.

Trump's team claps back

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell has fired back at the media, accusing them of sensationalizing the complaints of disgruntled former employees. “The antibodies against Trump are still ferocious, hungry for blood. They’ll latch onto anything that could possibly bring down the Trump agenda. We've already made a huge impact on America's servicemembers, and we’re not going to back down,” Parnell proclaimed.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly also jumped into the fray, dismissing the dissident disclosures as spin, purportedly intended to stroke the ex-employees’ bruised egos and undermine the president's agenda.

Schumer calls for Hegseth's dismissal

Democrat Chuck Schumer has demanded Hegseth's termination, claiming that he poses a threat to lives. "Pete Hegseth has proven time and time again that he can't keep America's secrets. Trump’s lack of guts is letting Hegseth slide, but America's safety can't be gambled with for political reasons," Schumer said.
