U.S. Military Eliminates High-Ranking ISIS Leader in Airstrike within Syrian Territory

In the Syrian desert, Rakhim Boev, a big-time ISIS honcho, met his end in a US precision strike. The U.S. Central Command (Centcom) made the announcement via X online service, using an alternative acronym for IS, stating that they'd put a bullet in Boev, who "had a hand in devising operations that could've taken a swing at US citizens, our comrades, and civilians1"
Centcom didn't hold back in showing off their handiwork with a video of a domed-in SUV sporting a shattered windshield.
Before that, local rescue workers spilled their beans to AFP news agency that a pair of drone strikes in Idlib left two casualties, one on a smashed-up vehicle, and another on a wrecked motorbike2. However, an initial inquiry to the U.S. Central Command received no response.
As of now, around 2,000 U.S. troops are aboard in Syria, part of the international coalition busting IS's chops since 2014. The initiative aimed to sink the "caliphate" dreamt up by the IS militia in both Syria and Iraq3
Although IS was officially dethroned in 2019, many of its fighters are still lurking in desert hideouts, posing a persistent threat4.

Despite the reported demise of IS in 2019, remnants of the militia continue to pose a threat in Syria's desert regions, challenging the current community and employment policies in the region. The politics surrounding the ongoing war-and-conflicts in the area have been a major focus of general news outlets as international cooperation, such as the ongoing efforts of the International Coalition against ISIS, attempts to mitigate the risks.
