Fat Stacks from February

The big U.S. markets for online gaming witnessed hefty revenue increases in February, with a lion's share coming from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. In the Garden State, digital casinos outshone their brick-and-mortar counterparts yet again.

Pennsylvania's Online Gaming Bonanza

Even as live casinos took a hit in Pennsylvania during February, online gaming scores soared. The combined gross gaming revenue for both online and land-based venues clocked in at $477.3 million, a mere 4.4% drop compared to the previous year. However, online revenue skyrocketed 12.3% to $202.7 million, contributing $91.8 million to the state's treasury.

The breakdown of Pennsylvania's online revenue was as follows:

  • Online slots: $154.3 million (up 22.6%)
  • Online table games: $50.9 million (down 10.1%)
  • Online poker: $2.4 million (up 0.4%)

Sports betting in Pennsylvania saw a handle of $756.9 million in February, a 14.4% increase from the previous year. Yet, sportsbook revenue saw a staggering 75.26% year-over-year decline, likely due to local gamblers wagering on the Philadelphia Eagles during the Super Bowl.

New Jersey's Digital Casino Boom

New Jersey's land-based casino industry continued to lag behind its online equivalent in February. The state's land-based casinos reported $203.5 million in earnings, a measly 3.8% decrease from the previous year. In contrast, digital casinos churned out $207.8 million, a 14% increase over the same period.

Online poker earnings in New Jersey came up to $2.4 million in February, a 2.6% increase. Sports betting yielded $73.6 million in February revenue, rising by 8.9%. Total earnings from all forms of gambling reached a whopping $484.8 million in February, a 5.1% increase from the previous year.

Michigan's Online Gaming and Sports Betting Paydays

Michigan declared $268.5 million in online gaming and sports betting income in February, an 18.9% drop compared to the preceding month. Online casino earnings summed up to $222.5 million, while sports betting grossed $46 million.

Combined adjusted gross receipts (AGR) totaled $236.3 million, with $209.1 million coming from digital casinos and $27.2 million from sports betting. Compared to the previous year, digital casino AGR grew by 23.6%, while sports betting AGR increased by a neat $14.3 million.

The total sports betting handle in Michigan amounted to $379.8 million, slumping 31.6% from the preceding month. Operators doled out $43.8 million in taxes to the state, while tribal operators submitted $4.7 million in payments to governing bodies in February.

The Silver Lining for the Online Gaming Space

The significant year-over-year increases in online gaming revenue across major U.S. markets in February 2026 points to the burgeoning appeal of digital gaming and sports betting. As more states legalize and regulate these activities, the industry is likely to keep scaling new heights. However, the impact of significant sporting events, such as the Super Bowl, on sports betting revenue indicates the unpredictable nature of this segment.

For operators and investors, these trends underscore the significance of diversifying offerings across various online gaming verticals. The impressive performance of digital casinos, particularly in New Jersey and Michigan, suggests that this sector may offer more stable income streams compared to sports betting.

As the online gaming landscape evolves, regulators and policymakers will have to stay nimble, keeping pace with the shifting dynamics between online and brick-and-mortar gaming establishments. The continued growth of online gaming may necessitate revisions to tax structures and regulatory frameworks to guarantee a harmonious and sustainable industry.

  • The growth of online gaming in Michigan was significant with digital casinos alone generating $222.5 million, marking a 23.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
  • Pennsylvania's online sportsbook revenue saw a 75.26% year-over-year decline in February, possibly due to local gamblers focusing on the Philadelphia Eagles during the Super Bowl.
  • Despite a 12.3% increase in total online gaming revenue for Pennsylvania in February, there was a 4.4% overall decrease in combined gross gaming revenue when compared to the previous year. This discrepancy suggests a potential shift in gaming preferences toward digital platforms.
