Rewritten Article:

Gambling in the U.S. continues to set new records, with the commercial sector breaking another high in 2024.

The American Gaming Association's latest report, titled "State of the States," reveals that commercial gaming revenue climbed by 7.5% in 2024, surpassing the $72.04 billion mark for the fourth consecutive year. This growth was fueled by the increasing popularity of online gaming (iGaming) and sports betting.

If you include the revenue from tribal gaming, the total U.S. gaming industry generated close to $115 billion in 2024. Tax revenues from this thriving sector amounted to $15.9 billion, with key contributors like Pennsylvania, New York, and Nevada leading the charge.

Pennsylvania, in particular, topped the list with $2.5 billion in commercial gaming tax revenues in 2024, demonstrating a 9% year-over-year growth from 2023. The state's iGaming market played a significant role in this impressive rise, shattering previous monthly records in March 2025 with a gaming revenue of $574.5 million. This growth fueled approximately $110 million in tax returns for state and local governments in just one month.

New York followed closely behind with $2.3 billion in gaming tax revenues in 2024, and Nevada reported $1.2 billion. Interestingly, 28 out of 38 U.S. states reported a new annual revenue record in 2024, and North Carolina and Vermont joined the fold after launching online sports betting.

In addition to the increased revenue, responsible gaming initiatives have emerged in some states to combat problem gambling. New York regulators are spearheading these efforts, aiming to create a mature and healthy regulatory environment alongside continued growth.

Online sports betting and iGaming are driving this market's growth, with online sports betting revenues increasing by 24.8% in 2024 compared to the previous year. While total revenues for these sectors can vary across states, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, and New York have emerged as major players in the iGaming market, collectively accounting for nearly $7.54 billion of the overall revenue in 2024.

Although specific changes in Nevada’s commercial gaming revenue and tax contributions were not detailed in the sources, the state remains a vital player in the U.S. gaming industry and benefited from the overall industry growth, alongside Pennsylvania and New York.

The growing popularity of online sports betting and iGaming has significantly contributed to the escalating revenue in the U.S. gaming industry, with a 24.8% increase in online sports betting revenues in 2024. Moreover, the line between traditional sports and sports betting has blurred, as the industry's growth transformed various states into line- Setting venues for sports betting, such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, and New York.
