Iran Stands Firm After Israeli Attacks Derail US Nuclear Talks

U.S.-Iran nuclear talks no longer deemed productive by Tehran

The ongoing nuclear discussions between Washington and Tehran have hit a snag. Following the Israeli large-scale strikes, Iran views the negotiations with the US as meaningless. Despite Donald Trump's continued hope for a negotiated settlement, Iran isn't buying it.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai stated, as reported by the Tasnim news agency, that Israel's violation of Iran's territorial sovereignty makes negotiations with the US pointless. Reiterating previous concerns, Baghai asserted that Israel is always looking to drag the West into strife, and it appears they've managed to do just that once again.

In light of the political landscape, renowned Iranian analyst Sadegh Sibakalam believes the Israeli strikes were deliberately aimed at sabotaging negotiations between the US and Iran. Sibakalam speculates that Israel's ultimate goal was to stymie a potential agreement between the two nations[2].

Trump had previously called for discussions over the nuclear deal on Truth Social after the Israeli attacks. In an interview with ABC, he voiced his dissatisfaction with recent talks between the US and Iran, stating, "We gave them a chance, and they didn't take it." Trump insists on more intense actions if a deal is not reached[1].

Initially, a new round of talks was scheduled for Sunday. However, Iran's foreign minister, who spearheads the negotiations for Tehran, has yet to provide a firm decision regarding the announced Oman-mediated talks. According to the state news agency Irna, Baghai expressed uncertainty about Iran's stance on the proposed talks[1].

Behind the Scenes

With Russia's help, US and Iranian leaders have been engaging in telephone calls to address Iran's nuclear issues diplomatically[1]. Although Trump hasn't confirmed US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's readiness to negotiate, Russian President Vladimir Putin encourages a diplomatic resolution[1][2].

The Israeli attacks have led to significant military changes within Iran, including the appointment of Brigadier General Majid Mousavi as the new commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force[3]. Iranian officials demand a halt to Israeli aggressions before considering resuming talks.

As tensions escalate, Iran maintains a firm stance, seeking assurances of Israeli ceasefire before rejoining negotiations with the US. The world watches with bated breath, unsure of the next move.

The Commission, in the midst of politics and general-news, has been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, as the ongoing nuclear discussions between Washington and Tehran take a turn due to Israel's attacks. Exacerbating the situation, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai asserted that Israel's actions make negotiations with the US pointless, impeding potential diplomatic resolutions regarding Iran's nuclear issue.
