U.S. Imposes Travel Restrictions on Individuals from Twelve Nations

Trump Slams the Brakes on 12 Countries, Partial Ban for Seven More
Looks like your travel plans might have hit a snag if you're a citizen from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, or Yemen. Today, the U.S. has imposed a travel ban on all these countries, effective June 9, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
Interestingly, the reason behind this move is the inability of these countries to screen and analyze their citizens efficiently, posing a significant risk to the United States.
However, there's some good news, too! If you happen to be a native of these countries but have previously obtained U.S. citizenship, hold a valid visa, or your travel plans align with U.S. interests, you're still good to go.
But, wait! There's more! Citizens from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will have some restrictions too, but with a twist. These travel restrictions will only apply to individuals outside the U.S. who don't have a valid visa. However, if you have a valid visa issued before the ban took effect, you're still in the game!
In January 2025, during his inauguration, Trump gave the green light to identify countries with insufficient screening information that might require partial or full travel bans for their citizens.
