Harvard Unleashes Battle Cry Against Trump's Latest Move on International Students

Harvard University officials are on the attack against President Donald Trump's fresh blow to block entry of its international students and researchers into the US and potentially revoke their visas. Trump's defense? It's all about national security.

In true Trump fashion, the president dropped an order on Wednesday night, halting the entry of new Harvard University students and researchers on F, M, or J student and exchange visitor visas. He's also got Secretary of State Mike Pompeo looking into revoking existing visas for current Harvard students who fit the bill.

The FYI: This move doesn't affect international students at other US universities or those whose entry is deemed in the national interest. Oh, Russia, here comes the shade.

The White House aired a list of grievances with Harvard, accusing it of giving easy access to American higher education to foreign adversaries, and its refusal to share disciplinary records for foreign students. The real tea? The administration now considers Harvard University as no longer trustworthy stewards of international student and exchange visitor programs.

In typical Harvard fashion, the university bounced back with a sassy statement: "This is another illegal, retaliatory step by the Administration in violation of Harvard's First Amendment rights...Harvard will continue to protect its international students."

Attorney General Pam Bondi summed it up beautifully on Twitter: "Admission to the United States to study at an 'elite' American university is a privilege, not a right. This Department of Justice will vigorously defend the President's proclamation suspending the entry of new foreign students at Harvard University based on national security concerns."

An impressive 6,793 international students enrolled at Harvard for the 2025-26 academic year, making up approximately 27% of the university's student population.

Welcome to the latest round in the Trump administration's lengthy feud with Harvard University. This move is just the latest escalation, coming after DHS stripped Harvard of its SEVP certification last month, preventing it from enrolling international students. But, thanks to a federal judge, Harvard was able to fight back and extend existing student's legal status.
