In the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, with over 80 people killed and more than 1,000 injured in the past 24 hours, as reported by emergency workers. The intense Israeli military operations have caused widespread displacement and civilian casualties, including attacks on UN guesthouses.

Since late June, approximately 1,891 Palestinians have been killed, including nearly 300 who died trying to collect humanitarian aid. Food insecurity and overall humanitarian conditions are worsening despite a limited increase in humanitarian aid entry. Displacement continues as Israeli forces issue evacuation orders, further complicating relief efforts.

Indirect talks between Hamas and Israel aimed at a 60-day ceasefire and a hostage release deal recently ended without agreement. About 251 hostages were initially taken by Hamas in October 2023, with only around 49 believed alive in Gaza now. Families of the hostages remain desperate, staging large protests in Tel Aviv to demand their release.

Diplomatic efforts have seen US special Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff meeting with some families to discuss the situation, but progress appears stalled. The UAE has provided over $1.5 billion in critical humanitarian support to Gaza since October 2023.

In response to the dire situation, some European countries, including Italy, Spain, Britain, and France, have begun airdrops delivering food and necessities to Gaza amid fears of famine. Italy announced plans to start airdrops around August 9, working with Jordanian forces. However, UN officials warn that airdrops are costly and insufficient compared to aid trucks, calling on Israel to open all land crossings for large-scale aid delivery.

The UN has accused Israel of being behind the shooting that has resulted in the deaths of more than 1,300 Palestinians while waiting for aid in Gaza. A video released by the UN shows hungry people, many of them children, being shot at while waiting for aid.

Humanitarian aid efforts face logistical and political barriers that limit their effectiveness. Germany's Bundeswehr armed forces have started dropping aid supplies over Gaza, and France has started air dropping 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid. However, border processing remains slow, and more crossings need to be opened urgently to prevent worsening hunger.

The situation in Gaza is severe, with child malnutrition surpassing famine thresholds, according to a top UN official. Finland's President Alexander Stubb has stated his readiness to approve a recognition of a Palestinian state. The UAE and Jordan led the 59th air drop operation of humanitarian aid into Gaza on Friday, alongside seven aircraft from France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

As the conflict continues, it is hoped that diplomatic efforts will lead to a ceasefire and the release of the hostages, allowing for much-needed humanitarian aid to reach those in need and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
