Thailand Now a Level 1 Talent: "Maintain Usual Wariness"

On June 9th, the United States Department of State issued a Level 1 advisory for Thailand-its safest rating. This means that most parts of Thailand are deemed safe for touring.

This puts Thailand on par with other low-risk countries, and it's expected to add a layer of trust, particularly among American tourists, who are known for their generous spending habits.

Advisory Warns for Selected Regions

However, this advisory comes with a regional twist. The United States Department of State advises Level 2 caution-beware the heat!-for:

  • Yala
  • Pattani
  • Narathiwat
  • Parts of Songkhla

These zones are flagged due to continuing civil unrest linked to insurgent activity. Despite the troubles in these areas, popular destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya remain under Level 1.

Thai Big Wigs Exalt the Upgrade

Tourism Minister Sorawong praised the United States for the upgrade, stating it would bolster confidence among foreign tourists, especially American vacationers. He asserted that this change would benefit the travel industry, bringing in increased earnings for accommodations, eateries, and local businesses nationwide.

Deputy spokeswoman Sasikarn pointed out that the advisory highlights Thailand's consistent efforts to ensure tourist security. She noted that key destinations had met global safety standards and lauded several productive initiatives, including:

  • The Tourist Assistance Centre
  • A dedicated tourist court
  • A fund for supporting foreign visitors

"The Level 1 advisory proves the collective efforts of all sectors to transform Thailand into a world-renowned, secure, and inviting vacation spot," she concluded. "It demonstrates that Thailand is prepared to shine as a premier tourist hub."
