On a fateful Saturday morning (local time), Governor Tim Waltz announced the murder of Democratic Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Market, in their Minneapolis-area residence. Authorities are treating the case as a "politically motivated assassination."

Shots were also fired at Minnesota Senator John Hoffman overnight. Both Hoffman and his wife sustained injuries, but are expected to survive after surgery. "The Hoffmans are alive and we are cautiously optimistic they will recover," said Governor Waltz at a press conference.

According to the police, the suspect is still on the loose. "We have several people in custody and being interviewed, but no one has been charged," said Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley. The authorities believe the suspect impersonated a police officer and had a list of potential targets, which included Representative Hortman and Senator Hoffman.

As part of the investigation, the FBI has joined forces with state and local agencies, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's capture. With the manhunt still ongoing, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety has warned protest participants to stay away from upcoming events in light of the suspected assassination attempt.
