U.S. Army Rolls Out Enhanced MAPS GEN II for Better Navigation in Challenging Environments
The U.S. Army has rolled out the updated Mounted Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing System (MAPS) GEN II. This new system, compatible with the Army's Next Generation Command and Control infrastructure, has received full-rate production approval and is now being distributed to units.
MAPS GEN II offers enhanced security features, including tighter encryption and sensor fusion algorithms, making it more resistant to complex electronic warfare threats like GPS jamming and spoofing. It also comes with an alert system for electronic interference threats, ensuring soldiers stay informed in high-stress environments.
Units such as the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, have begun training on the new system. The Pentagon has established a U.S. Central Command task force to swiftly deliver this technology to units in the field within 60 days.
MAPS GEN II, developed by Anduril and other key manufacturers, is set to improve soldiers' navigation and communication capabilities. With its increased security and alert systems, it aims to provide a crucial advantage in challenging environments.
